Product Description Did you know that 80% of plant withering is caused by improper watering? Statements like “thoroughly once per week” or “when surface of potting soil is dry” are by no means absolute indications on when to water, but approximations. When the right time to water a plant has come depends on many factors like temperature, moisture, amount of sunlight and plant size. SUStee is a watering indicator for home use which is based on pF value, which means it works perfectly with all types of plants and in all kinds of soil. Previous page HOW TO USE SUSTEE Insert it into the soil The bottom opening must be completely covered in soil & the upper opening must stay out of the soil. HOW TO USE SUSTEE Water generously at first use You can also put SUStee into a cup of water, wait for it to turn blue & then insert it into the pot. HOW TO USE SUSTEE White – needs watering, Blue – enough water Leave SUStee in the pot to continuously monitor soil humidity & show you when to water your plant. Next page 1 1. Set 2 2. Water 3 3. Monitor All you need to know about SUStee Choose the right SUStee for your plant Size and Colour SUStee is available in 2 colours: GREEN and WHITE and in 3 different sizes: S, M and L. Choose the size of your SUStee according to the diameter of you pot: Size S for pots with diameter <3.5in (7.1in (>18cm) How much to water and when will the colour change First time use When using SUStee for the first time insert it into the pot between the arrow markers and water your plant generously. Water should drip out onto the saucer, which you should later empty to avoid overflow. SUStee will start turning blue in a matter of minutes, depending on the size. The average time it takes for each size to turn blue: Size S – 3 minSize M – 5 minSize L – 25 min When should you water your plant again Watering The time for watering your plant has come when the little window on SUStee’s top has turned completely white. Blue → the soil is adequately hydrated.White → the soil is dry and watering is required. We do not recommend watering if SUStee shows the slightest hint of blue. The change of colour will alter with the seasons: in hot summers water will evaporate much quicker, leading SUStee to turn white faster, in winter, water will evaporate slower and SUStee will stay blue for longer. SUStee works with all kinds of plants How SUStee actually works Many people mistakenly believe that there are different watering frequencies for different plants. Watering timing varies depending on the environment (temperature, humidity, season, the growth status of a plant, etc.) – not the type of plant. There is a beneficial soil moisture range shared by all plants. It is called “available water capacity” and can be rated using what is academically called pF value. SUStee is a watering checker with a pF value indicator for your home! SUStee is suitable for all kinds of soils Soil types SUStee is based on the so called pF-value (“potential Force”), which means that it does not tell you if there is water in the soil or not, but it actually measures the ability of the plant’s roots to extract water from the soil. Therefore SUStee can be used in most soil bases: Organic & Inorganic SoilBarkBog & Peat Moss and even Hydroculture. 2-piece pack (-5%) 2-piece Pack (S, Green) 2-piece Pack (S, White) 2-piece Pack (M, Green) 2-piece Pack (M, White) 2-piece Pack (L, Green) 2-piece Pack (L, White) Size Small Small Medium Medium Large Large Pot diameter < 9cm 18cm > 18cm Dimensions 10mm x 8mm x 120mm 10mm x 8mm x 120mm 10mm x 8mm x 180mm 10mm x 8mm x 180mm 10mm x 8mm x 225mm 10mm x 8mm x 225mm Weight 2 x 4.3g 2 x 4.3g 2 x 5.9g 2 x 5.9g 2 x 8.0g 2 x 8.0g Colour Green White Green White Green White How to maintain SUStee What to do if SUStee does not turn blue or white? Troubleshooting If your SUStee is not turning blue or white try one of these measures: Not turning blue: try watering more, especially the first time you use it.Not turning white: it is possible that SUStee cannot breathe. Try loosening the soil in the pot before watering again or insert SUStee into a new spot. Not changing colour: SUStee’s core may be clogged – try washing your SUStee. It is also possible that SUStee’s inner core was damaged by bacterias or bugs in the soil – replace the core with a new one. How to take care of your SUStee Cleaning process After long periods of use SUStee might not react as swiftly as it should. This may be due to soil sticking to it. What to do: Mix neutral detergent with warm water and place SUStee upside down (the window facing downwards) and let it soak for about an hour. Whatever is sticking to SUStee should come off and dissolve this way. After cleaning let SUStee dry till it shows white. Now you can reuse it. After 6-24 months the inner core should be changed Replacing the inner core SUStee’s inner core is 100% natural, made of non-woven cotton and will be consumed by microorganisms over time. The core has to be replaced when it stops changing colour (approx. after 6-24 months). How do you know when to replace the inner core? Take SUStee out of the soil and verify the opening at the bottom. If the inner core has decomposed, it is time to replace it with a new one.The inner core should be replaced when the device stops reacting, even if it is not entirely gone. Water sprayers, rain, fertilisers and pesticides? Other frequently asked questions 1. Is SUStee affected by water sprayers or rain? No. SUStee registers the amount of water in the soil. If SUStee gets wet and changes its colour to blue, it will turn white again, as soon as the soil is dry. 2. Is SUStee affected by mineral or organic fertiliser or influenced by pesticides? If not overused and with low oil content, SUStee will not be affected by fertilisers or pesticides.
